The James White Award was instituted to honour the memory of one of Ireland’s most successful science fiction authors, James White. To learn more about James White and his writing, visit SectorGeneral.com.

The James White Award is sponsored by Interzone, the UK’s longest-running and best science fiction story. The Award is administered by the British Science Fiction Association.

The Award winner will receive a cash prize of £250 and the winning story will be published in Interzone.

The shortlisted stories for the 2009s James White Award were:

“His Final Experiment” by David L Clements

“Flock, Shoal, Herd” by James Bloomer

“Are Friends Electric” by Dan Purdue

This year’s winner was announced at the British Science Fiction Association/Science Fiction Foundation mini-convention being held on Saturday 19 June, 2010 at The Royal Astronomical Society, Burlington House, London.

And the winner was…

Flock, Shoal, Herd by James Bloomer.
